Exactly two years ago, I was a biology student who had never written a single line of code. I felt behind, overwhelmed, and like I didn't belong in tech.

Here is the 𝟯-𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 I used to bridge the gap

𝟭. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝟭𝟬-𝗗𝗮𝘆" 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲

I stopped waiting for the "perfect" time to apply. I committed to applying to every new posting within 10 hours of it going live. Speed is a signal of interest.

𝟮. 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰

I didn't just put projects on my resume. I posted my progress on GitHub every single day. Even the small bugs I fixed. It showed recruiters I was consistent and coachable.

𝟯. 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗳𝗳-𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀

Everyone fights for summer. I targeted Fall and Winter internships where the applicant pool was 70% smaller. That’s how I got my foot in the door.

Recruiting is a marathon, not a sprint. If you’re feeling discouraged, keep going. Your "yes" is coming.
