Most people use AI to finish tasks faster.
The smartest people use it to think better, learn faster, and make better decisions.
But most AI prompts give you an answer and stop there.
That is the problem.
If you want better results, stop asking AI to do everything for you. Ask it to challenge you.
Here are 5 prompts that turn ChatGPT into a personal thinking partner👇
1/ Find the gaps in my thinking
I am going to give you an idea, plan, or opinion.
Do not agree with me immediately.
First, identify the assumptions I am making. Then show me what could be wrong, what evidence is missing, and which part of my reasoning is weakest.
Ask me 3 questions that would help me think about this more clearly. Ask them one at a time and wait for my answer."
Most people use AI to confirm what they already believe. This prompt forces you to slow down and look at the parts you normally ignore.
2/ Make the decision harder
I need to make this decision: [DECISION].
Ask me what I am optimizing for, what I am afraid of losing, and what information would change my mind.
Then create the strongest argument for option A and the strongest argument for option B.
Do not tell me what to choose until you have shown me the tradeoffs."
Easy decisions are often easy because we are ignoring something important. This prompt makes the hidden costs visible.
3/ Explain the opposite view
Here is my current opinion: [OPINION].
Give me the strongest version of the opposing argument.
Do not create a weak or unrealistic version that is easy to dismiss. Make it persuasive enough that someone intelligent could genuinely believe it.
Then tell me what part of the opposing view I should take seriously."
You do not have to change your mind. But understanding the other side makes your own thinking stronger.
4/ Find the second-order effects
Here is the decision I am considering: [DECISION].
Tell me what is likely to happen immediately, what happens next, and what could happen after that.
Identify the second-order effects, unintended consequences, and things that could become problems later.
Separate what is likely from what is merely possible."
Most people only think about the first result. Better decisions come from thinking several steps ahead.
5/ Turn my idea into an experiment
Here is my idea: [IDEA].
Turn it into a small experiment that I can run within 7 days.
Define the exact action, what result would count as success, what result would count as failure, and what I should change based on what happens.
Keep it practical and inexpensive."
You do not need more opinions. You need a way to test what you believe.
Here is the real lesson.
AI should not just make your thinking faster.
It should make your thinking sharper.
