Valerie Ehrlich positions herself as a sophisticated bridge between emerging technology and social impact, leveraging 20 years of evaluation experience to guide nonprofits through the transition from reactive AI experimentation to strategic, mission-aligned adoption. Her content strategy centers on the "human infrastructure" of technology, moving beyond tool-specific tutorials to explore recurring themes of responsible AI, environmental sustainability, and systems-level change. She is particularly notable for her "skeptically optimistic" stance, often challenging the tech-centric narrative that knowledge only flows from Silicon Valley to the social sector. By intersecting organizational development with ethical AI governance, Ehrlich provides a high-agency framework for leaders to adopt tools like AI notetakers and LLMs without sacrificing their values or institutional memory.

Whoops! It's been a minute! As a one-woman show, it's hard to keep up with the content demands needed to stay visible across platforms. But, I also believe in embracing imperfection. So, here's an i…
Two key points here that resonate with what I’m seeing: 1) Uneven adoption and uneven benefit. As John Cutler pointed out in his recent issue (TBM 420) AI can amplify terrible ideas as much as it can…
Okay, enough of you have sent me this that I'll chime in a bit with my "skeptically optimistic but still spicy" hat on. What's nice about this is that the market right now for early-career people is…

I’ve been thinking a lot about the "efficiency trap" in AI adoption.
We’re so focused on how much time these tools can save us that we’re forgetting to ask what we’re actually doing with the time we get back.
Lately, I’ve been experimenting with using AI not to do things *faster*, but to do them *deeper*. I’ve been using LLMs to pressure-test my own assumptions before I head into strategy sessions with clients.
It’s not about the output; it’s about the friction.
By asking the AI to "play the skeptic" or "identify the systemic gaps" in my logic, I’m arriving at insights that I simply wouldn't have found if I was just looking for a quick summary.
But (and this is the important part...), this only works if we have the "human infrastructure" in place to actually listen to what the tool is telling us.
❇️ Cultures that value dissent and questioning,
❇️ The psychological safety to be "wrong" in front of a bot, and
❇️ The time to actually reflect on the feedback.
Without these, we’re just building faster ways to make the same old mistakes.
I’m curious—how are you using AI to slow down and think, rather than just speed up and produce? I’d love to hear your "slow AI" stories.
