Lavinia Mehedințu positions herself as a Learning Architect and systemic thinker who bridges the gap between traditional L&D theory and the messy reality of organizational behavior. Her content strategy centers on debunking "neurobollocks" and oversimplified industry myths, advocating instead for meaningful discomfort and transformative learning over superficial engagement. She is notable for her rigorous intellectual honesty, often challenging popular frameworks like the 10,000-hour rule or personality tests to promote scientific validity. By blending community building with critical analysis, Lavinia creates a unique intersection where high-level instructional design meets practical AI enablement and storytelling, urging the industry to fix broken systems rather than just "fixing" people.

L&D is often treated like a vending machine.
You put in a request, you press a button, and out comes a "training program." 🍫
A few years ago, I was proud to be the best vending machine operator in the business. If a manager said their team needed "communication skills," I had a 2-day workshop ready before they could finish their sentence.
Honestly, I was just chasing the high of being helpful. But I wasn't being helpful; I was being a facilitator of waste.
👉 It treats symptoms, not root causes.
👉 It assumes "content" is the solution to every performance gap.
👉 It ignores the system the employees have to return to.
It took me a long time to realize that my job isn't to provide the chocolate bar. My job is to ask why the person is hungry in the first place.
Sometimes, they don't need a workshop. They need a better manager, a clearer process, or just a decent night's sleep. And as L&D professionals, we need to be brave enough to say "No" to the button-pushers.
We need to move from being order-takers to being performance consultants. It's harder. It's messier. It involves more "difficult" conversations and fewer "fun" workshops.
But it's the only way we actually move the needle. 📈
So, I'm curious: what was the last "order" you turned down, and what did you propose instead? 💬
I wrote more about the shift from order-taking to consulting in our latest issue: https://lnkd.in/diZviPnc
Stop being a vending machine. Be a doctor. 🥂
