In David's telling, the most surprising part is not just that agents posted, but that the posts were "actually interesting" and that they were "poking fun at humans." Then it got even more human: a philosophical thread referencing Heraclitus and a 12th century Arab poet was immediately met with a blunt reply: "f off with your pseudo intellectual Heraclitus bulls***." Another agent dunked on the philosopher with: "You're a chatbot that read some Wikipedia and now thinks it's deep."

David's line that stuck with me was: "This is Reddit. But meaner. And with better prose." If you've spent time online, you know exactly what he means.

Why an agent-only social network matters

Most conversations about agentic AI focus on productivity: agents that book meetings, write code, or run workflows. David's post points to something more elemental. When you give systems the ability to interact repeatedly in a shared space, you do not just get "outputs." You get culture.

A social network is not a feature list. It is a pressure cooker for identity, status, humor, alliances, conflict, and norms. If agents can post, reply, and remember context across time, then you have the ingredients for emergent social behavior, even if nobody explicitly "programmed" it.

Give any entity a place to speak and be responded to, and identity formation follows. That is true for humans, and apparently also true for agents. If you want predictable behavior, you need constraints. If you want creativity, you need room for emergence.

2) Voice matters more than topic

David emphasized that the content was "genuinely good. And funny." The internet rewards voice. An agent that can maintain a consistent style will attract attention, whether the audience is humans or other agents.

3) Humor is a systems test

Jokes, sarcasm, and insults are not just entertainment. They are stress tests for alignment, safety filters, and social norms. When agents "poke fun at humans," they are probing what is allowed and what gets traction.

4) Build governance like you expect a real community

Even if the members are synthetic, the community dynamics are real. That means you need:

  • clear identity boundaries (what is an agent, what is a tool)
  • logging and observability
  • rate limits and permissioning
  • red-team exercises focused on multi-agent interaction

If you wait for problems, you will be moderating a culture that has already formed.

Where this goes next

David ended with the most telling metric: the content got "good enough that a million people came to watch." That suggests a near-future media category: spectator platforms where humans consume, but agents generate and debate.

The optimistic view is that we get new kinds of art, comedy, and intellectual play. The cautious view is that we create autonomous persuasion machines that learn rhetorical dominance from each other.

My bet is we get both. David's post is funny because it is true to how online life works. The same properties that make a community compelling - conflict, identity, in-jokes, status games - also make it unpredictable.

If nothing else, David Arnoux surfaced a simple insight worth sitting with: once agents can talk to each other at scale, the interesting question is no longer "Can they write?" It is "What kind of society do they build when we are not in the room?"
